Sacred Sound, Subtle Power: Vedic Chanting & the Living Language of Sanskrit

with Claudette Evans

May 15 - 17, 2026

In the ancient yogic tradition, sound is not just symbolic—it is foundational. The Sanskrit word śabda means sound, vibration, and truth itself. This weekend immersion invites you into the living practice of Vedic chanting and Sanskrit, where sacred sound becomes a steady path to clarity, focus, and inner awakening. Spanning five 3-hour modules in person (15 Contact Hours), plus an optional 5 Non-Contact Hours, this workshop weekend blends the heart-opening power of mantra with a grounded, accessible approach to Sanskrit language and pronunciation. It is designed for experienced yoga teachers looking to deepen their practice and teaching, as well as curious seekers drawn to the transformative power of sound.

Topics Explored:

• Chanting the Veda •
Chanting offers an immediate doorway into stillness. The rhythm, breath, and repetition help steady the mind, extend the exhale, and anchor awareness. Through the traditional call-and-response method of adhyāyanam (teacher recites, student repeats) you’ll experience this meditative effect firsthand.

• Language of Creation: Sanskrit
More than a language, sanskrit is said to be a vibrational blueprint for the cosmos. The 49 root sounds of the Sanskrit alphabet are considered Mātṛkā-śakti, subtle energies from which all form arises. Honoring this sonic structure preserves the potency and purpose of Vedic mantra.

• Sanskrit Foundations & Pronunciation •
We’ll revisit Sanskrit’s history and purpose through a Vedic lens, focusing on accurate sound production and foundational grammar. This segment supports both clarity in chanting and respectful integration into modern yoga and spiritual teaching.

• Sūktam Study & Recitation Practice •
You’ll be guided in learning and reciting three essential hymns (sūktam) from the Veda; Śraddhā Sūktam, Agni Sūktam, and Medhā Sūktam. On their own, each is a powerful tool for aligning inner intention with outer expression. Together, they form a foundation for awakening to your true purpose.

Who is This For?

This is not an academic study of Sanskrit or mantra. It is a practice of embodied listeningprecise sound, and presence through voice. When sound is offered with care and clarity, chanting becomes a gateway to transformation—supporting personal sādhana and enriching the yoga you share with others.

Whether you are ready to integrate Vedic sound into your teaching or are simply seeking a deeper connection to the spiritual roots of yoga, this workshop weekend offers a luminous, accessible foundation for the path ahead.

There are a total of 20 CEUs available for registered yoga teachers to apply toward BYC’s 300-Hr Advanced Yoga Studies Program or Yoga Alliance continuing education hours.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY

Registration for all events, including trainings and immersion workshops, is non-refundable. However, if you cannot attend, you may transfer your spot to another person by contacting us via phone, email, or in person.

We understand that plans can change, but our no-refund policy helps us maintain the quality and sustainability of our offerings. Organizing events requires significant time, effort, and resources from both the studio and our teachers. In addition, many of our trainings & workshops have limited spacing — last-minute cancellations not only prevent others from attending, but also affect the viability of the event for our dedicated instructors. As a small, local business, your understanding and cooperation not only helps us support our teachers, but also allows us to continue providing enriching experiences for our community!
